Overview of the 2018 Hyundai Genesis G80

Now in its second year as a stand-alone brand, Genesis expands its luxury sedan lineup with a new turbocharged G80 Sport model. If anyone wondered whether Hyundai, the parent company from which Genesis is spun, intended to compete seriously in the luxury segment, wonder no more.

For 2018, the G80 adds a 3.3T Sport trim level. Powered by a turbocharged V6 and underpinned by an adaptive, performance-oriented suspension, the 3.3T Sport promises to infuse the lineup with a level of performance that’s on par with its European competitors. Up until now, we’ve found the G80 is an exceptionally nice cruiser and commuter, but only just passable when trying to whip up a frenzy in the twists and turns.

What’s new for the 2018 Genesis G80?

The 2018 G80 receives a new Sport trim with a new 3.3-liter turbocharged V-6. Also, the G80 enters the new model year with an updated 8-speed automatic transmission, refreshed headlights, a tweaked lower front grille, updated front and rear fascias, a new standard 18-inch wheel design, new instrument cluster, shift knob, analog clock, and premium speaker design. Additionally, Genesis adds newly available genuine matte wood finishes, an additional USB charging port, added Pedestrian Detection and Driver Attention Alert as standard safety features, and improved interior noise levels with added NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) cancellation enhancements.
